Words cannot describe this place!!!!! BEYOND AMAZING!!!!!!!! This is the only place I will stay at in NOLA!!!! The staff was so nice and knowledgable about the area and made me feel at home. Briana, Brian, Wyatt, Jordan, & Melanie were soooo friendly & sweet. my room especially my bathroom! The mansion had everything I need a fully equipped gym and yoga/mediation area. The social/cocktail hour was great! Such a comfortable and home environment with beautiful view & in walking distance to the French Quarter. Until next time!!!!!

AMAZING place! We stayed here for just 2 nights and wish I could have stayed longer. The staff was beyond helpful. Somehow hotels.com had double booked us. Michelle (I believe was her name, I'm so sorry if I forgot) was wonderful and called them for us. She handled the situation with grace and was our favorite staff member. We stayed in a suite that overlooked Esplanade. The room was amazing. Normally you don't want to stay in a hotel and would rather go out exploring. There were a few times we were happy to just spend some time in our room relaxing. The pool is GORGEOUS! The best part is, you can swim whenever you want! 24 hours. It was so nice to come back to the hotel after a long day of walking around in the New Orleans heat and just swim and cool down. We will DEFINITELY be coming back to New Orleans and most certainly staying at the Melrose. (I will say, one negative was this - parking was not the greatest. The fact they offer parking is one thing, but it was sometimes difficult to leave or park when housekeeping staff was around as they used the lot too. Oh, and the bathroom door thing was also a little strange. But to me, the pros outweighed the cons and I loved the place!)

My anniversary weekend was full of good memories all around, and it all started with Melrose Mansion. I'll start with some expectation setting; you are staying in an old mansion. It ain't a brand new, Disney-esque "Mansion" designed to look stately but actually built in 2005; this is a Victorian style home designed and built by Freret himself about 150 years ago. So, yes, floors will creak as guests and staff walk through the hallway. Yes, water pressure may be less than phenomenal at times (a shared quirk of much of this area of the city). If these very small idiosyncrasies aren't your bag, do yourself and Melrose a favor and go stay at the W. That said, its period-accurate paint job and decorations belie guest rooms with modern amenities like Wi-Fi, marble showers, and big televisions with cable. On the other hand, the staff were some of the kindest, most courteous and accommodating folks I've ever had the pleasure to stay with. They knew we were there for a wedding anniversary, and they provided a complimentary bottle of prosecco, which we enjoyed poolside. Oh yeah, there's a pool! It's small but well-maintained, and it's a rare and welcome amenity for such a small property, especially in the mid-day June heat. Continental breakfast and early evening social hour were simple and understated, but if you're visiting New Orleans you are missing the point if you rely on your hotel for sustenance and libation. Walk down the block to Port of Call or, easier still, cross the street and duck into Buffa's; I recommend both. I will happily recommend Melrose Mansion to anyone looking for an interesting place to stay in a thriving neighborhood with convenient access to the French Quarter. And I look forward to visiting again myself.

Beautiful & historic, the Melrose Mansion provides comfortable, cozy accommodations. We reserved the Executive Suite and it was grander and more stunning than I ever could have imagined. At 1300 sq ft. it has it all - from a full kitchen to a washer and dryer. The bathroom was incredible! Full walk in shower that could easily fit 3 adults and an oversized jacuzzi tub! The staff was friendly and professional. They accommodated everything we asked for. The hotel offers a lovely wine and cheese reception and their breakfast was a perfect continental breakfast. The only thing keeping me from giving the hotel 5 stars, is that none of their rooms accommodate 3-4 people. We had three in our room, and the third had to sleep on the couch. You would sure think there would be some kind of bed (or a rollout) in a 1300 sq ft. suite. Also, we didn't realize there was a charge for the third person (of $25 per night) for the 3rd person. That being said, I would definitely return to this property if I travel to NOLA again as long as I only had 2 people.

I thought it was lovely. We were welcomed in and sorted out right away. There was a beautiful Christmas tree in the reception area (we arrived just after Christmas) Everyone was super friendly and helpful and we received spot on recommendations from the staff on places to go and see and where to eat. The room was spacious and nice with romantic lighting. My husband I walked to Frenchman at or the French Quarter every day and we ha a good time at the two local watering holes - Port of Call and Buffas. The breakfast is very simple but we didn't mind that because we were eating so much during the day anyway! And every afternoon they set aside wine and cheese which was relaxing and a great way to meet other guests. Wish the pool was heated as it's lovely at night but we were here I the winter so it was too cold to swim. Overall we had a wonderful experience !

We stayed here for a Sunday night. The mansion is in an ideal location for venturing out in the French Quarter. The staff was both friendly and helpful. The only issue we had with our trip had to do with parking. We booked through Expedia and weren't aware that there was limited parking available. Apparently you need to call the Mansion ahead of time to arrange for parking. Not a big deal, we dropped off our bags and found parking about 5 blocks away ($35/day). When we got back they had already delivered our bags to the room. Check in was a breeze and they are a truly classy business that offered a bottle of water while we checked in. The room was beautiful - it had both a jacuzzi tub and a nice big shower. The room was very clean and the bed was super comfortable it was a king size with a nice duvet comforter. I read another online review about a lack of hot water - I did find that we had to let the water run for a few minutes before it got hot - perhaps the other reviewer was just impatient. Overall I would highly recommend the Melrose Mansion for an overnight in New Orleans. I would definitely stay here again.

WOW! I love Melrose Mansion. We stayed in a studio and absolutely loved this beautiful property. It was so clean and nicely decorated. The location is also amazing. It is right outside of the quiter end of the french quarter. It is just a 5min walk to the quarter. Great location for those who don't want to be right smack in the middle of the craziness of Bourbon St, but still able to walk there if you want to experience it. The staff- where can I begin? The best staff I have EVER dealt with at any hotel. They will ensure you have a great stay. If you need any tips on places to go, eat, etc they will map out everything for you. They arranged for our taxi to pick us up, provided us with extras that we needed, and were just so helpful. Melrose Mansion is the only place I will stay when I visit New Orleans. Thank you to everyone at Melrose who made our experience so amazing!

My adult daughter and I were traveling from North Carolina to California and we found Melrose Mansion on Travelocity. The pictures online were deceiving for the actual place did not look like this. First, the bed for uncomfortable and it was like sleeping in a hammock and when you laid on it, the feet part of the bed went up as if you needed oxygen to the brain. Secondly, for a four star hotel, I was taken by surprise that there were no "real" coffee cups but plastic cups in your room. There were only 2 towels per room where most hotels have at least 3 towels. There is outside noise that can be heard at night and it may be a good idea to have a sound machine in each room. The coffee in the morning was mostly water and had no flavor. There were no robes in the rooms for a 4 star hotel there should have been. The fan was noisy! I would not recommend staying here if you are travelling.

Since the hotel is located in a Mansion, it give you the feel of being at home versus feeling like you are staying in the average hotel. With that said, if you are looking for the frills of staying in a hotel then this bed and breakfast style place isn't for you. If you do however, like traveling and staying like a local while experience the little comforts of home, you will love this place. The hotel is not only beautiful, but very well maintained and clean especially since it was fairly recently renovated. The breakfast (cereal and muffins) and evening reception (wine and cheese) are something left to be desired but I will say everything was fresh and although nothing special tasted good considering. The staff was incredible. Everyone was extremely friendly, nice and accommodating. If you have any questions, just ask they are very willing and eager to help out and ensure you enjoy your stay. Although the mansion is located on the East side of the French Quarter, everything is still within reasonable walking distance and any outside areas are very accessible from the bus stop not too far away. The location allows you to enjoy the tranquility of the neighborhood with easy access to the madness of Bourbon Street and not have to deal with all the chaos at night if you do make it home to sleep. I loved my stay here and I can't wait to go back.

Stayed here mid June - for a last minute trip to New Orleans. We booked our room via Expedia on a whim... based on reviews and a couple of photos. Taxi drops us off just after midnight - we had arranged for a super late check-in following our flight. Everything about it gave the perfect first impression - the small iron gate, the way the chandelier light bounced off the living room walls, the jazz music softly playing, the chic/modern decor. Very sleek bed and breakfast feel, while still staying in a 'hotel.' We checked in at the "front desk" - it's actually inside what would be the kitchen of the mansion- and were personally walked to our room. When was the last time you got an actual room KEY?? Definitely added to the charm. Since this place was built in the 1800's, be prepared for creaky floors, funky doors, and narrow doorways. We stayed in Napoleon Suite #2 - huge space, great bed, super high ceilings, beautifully remodeled marble bathroom. Here are the down sides: -- very easy to spill water out of the marble shower. huge puddle the first night, kinda got the hang of it the rest of the trip - still annoying. -- very little natural light in the room. Our room was on the side facing the building next door, so I didn't want to have windows open (altho in the summer, it's best to keep the room dark) - but still wish we had a big window we could've opened up in the morning without staring at a wall or an alley. -- location is great because it's a quiet neighborhood, it's off the craziness of Bourbon Street, BUT... definitely saw some shady characters at night... AND one of our tour guides told us to be careful in that area. -- "convenience" charge is annoying bc we were never in the hotel during the hours of the "complimentary" wine/cheese/breakfast In spite of the list, I give it 4 stars because Melrose Mansion made for a VERY memorable first trip to New Orleans... definitely added to the charm. OVERALL - I'd do it all over again... although next time I'm curious about the bigger suites. :)

Wedding At Melrose My wife and I got married here on 4/20/13 and it was a great success. I'll just break it down into pros and cons: Pros: 1. Beautiful old style mansion in New Orleans lends a great backdrop for a wedding. Great for photos and reception. 2. There are only 14 or so rooms there so we were able to book the whole place which we loved. It's great during your wedding to have only your friends and family there. 3. The staff is great as others have mentioned. In true New Orleans style they are super friendly and very helpful. 4. It was just remodeled so for an older building it's in great shape. The rooms are all different shapes and sizes and the room for the bride and groom has a great balcony facing Esplanade street which is awesome for socializing. A lot of the rooms are very spacious with sitting rooms. 5. There is a common room that we used for part of our bachelor party as well called the breakfast room. We had a poker tournament there. Lots of room and big screen tv. 6. Location is awesome. Heart of the French Quarter on what I consider to be one of the prettiest streets in NOLA. Very close to bourbon street but far enough away to avoid the messy drunks for the most part. Never had trouble sleeping. 7. There is a pool! 8. Breakfast in the morning is pretty good with very good coffee and some pastries, yogurt and granola. Cons: 1. The bathroom in our room didn't have a door. A little strange if your fiance needs to duece and you have to leave the room. Annoying in the morning. 2. While the hotel is updated a lot of stuff is still fairly old. Sinks, showers etc... All in all a great and affordable place to hold a wedding with all-star staff and location. Great venue for weddings.

What have they done to the Melrose Mansion???!!! The new decor and renovtions have killed all of the quaint vintage charm it once had. No thanks. It looks like some heartless, soulless carpetbagger's haven now. Deeply disappointed.

Beautiful, painstakingly restored and redecorated property in an excellent location, close to the French Quarter yet far enough removed to be away from "the crazy." We stayed for just one night at a scandalously low rate (about $125 altogether); I would have expected to pay nearly twice as much for lodgings of this caliber. This place is perfect for someone who wants a B&B/hotel hybrid (looks and feels like a B&B, but is a bit larger and doesn't have that "smothering" vibe -- no forced intimacy, awkward family-style meals, shared bathrooms, etc.). Very gay friendly, and super-convenient to all the gay nightlife. Reason 4/5 instead of 5/5: (1) the afternoon wine/cheese and morning breakfast leave much to be desired and, as others have noted, really don't warrant the extra $11/day amenities charge, (2) you will be awakened by any of your fellow guests who might be coming and going while you are trying to sleep (you might even consider bringing ear plugs, particularly if you are a light sleeper). Can't comment upon: (1) the lack of lighting in some rooms (our room, The Miss Kitty, faced the courtyard, and it was lovely), (2) the parking situation (we only parked overnight, so we didn't have any issues, but the Marigny only permits two hour non-resident parking between 7am and 7pm, so I'm not sure what we would have done if we had been planning on staying an extra day). Overall, we were very impressed--at the rate we paid, this was an *incredible* value-- and would definitely stay again.

I think I'll have to go the technical route with this review... PROs and CONs: PRO *Very friendly service *Great location *Fantastic ambience and theme *Pool (although weather too cold to swim) *24-hr fitness room *Breakfast (although small selection) *Nice flat screen TV *Very nice bathroom! CON *Computer system that seems to mess up the employees *Unclean sheets and furniture (which they did not offer any proper compensation for this infraction -- they offered a pack of beer) *$150 incidental hold charge that was not mentioned prior to booking *Another 8 bucks a night for amenities (fine print) *Thin walls *Old armoire *No parking (street only and the signs make it hard to figure out where you can park) So given these things... I would take it with a grain of salt. There are many things they canstill improve to justify paying full price. However, it is still worth staying to remain close to the French Quarter.

Located on the north side of the French quarter, just a short stroll away from Bourbon Street, sits this remodeled Victorian mansion built in 1884. During our stay here from 1/28/12 - 1/31/12 we experienced true southern hospitality from the staff and enjoyed the amenities this hotel had to offer. The original hardwood floors, elegant décor and old world style added to the charm of the place. The 20 foot ceilings in our room and amazing HUGE marble shower with rainfall showerhead were the highlights of our stay at the Melrose Mansion. We were extremely fortunate to find parking right in front of the hotel all four days we were there so that was no problem. We would stay here again for future NOLA/Mardi Gras trips!

Spent two nights in this beautiful establishment. We were upgraded from a junior suite to a Napoleon suite. The Napoleon suites are awesome because they are in a separate house than the main building. Brian at check in was so helpful. Our room was huge! Wonderful king bed, dining area, exquisite bathroom with rain shower head. We did not have a view at all from the windows in our room (Napoleon 2) but that was really the least of our worries. We spent a lot of our time at the pool (it was in the high 90's the whole time in N.O.). The pool was the perfect temperature and so relaxing. The pool area makes you feel like royalty. It also helped that we were by ourselves at the pool every time we went. The property is amazing, historical and beautiful. Wine and cheese every evening and coffee and pastries in the morning. Only downside was that they did not tell us where the fitness center was and in not doing so, we forgot they had one. Which is a reason we booked in the first place. Other than that our stay was amazing. Close enough to the FQ but far enough to still be tranquil and relaxing. Highly recommend!!!

Lovely restored and thoughtfully renovated mansion on the edge of the French Quarter. Furnished with antiques, yet renovations included a throughly modern tile shower encased in glass and central/heating and cooling. The bed, which was a big antique wrought iron bed, was as about at chest height and perhaps the most comfortable bed I've encountered in a hotel. We happened to stay at an off time and for a period of time were the only guests residing in the mansion. I was disappointed that especially given the price, the little niceties promised were not included (wine/cheese in evening, breakfast), with the explanation given being that they could not provide these with such a low occupancy.

Perched just outside the French Quarter, the Melrose Mansion is a gorgeous antebellum mansion that is meticulously maintained. Suites range from $225 to $400 a night, with the junior suites being much smaller but still charming. All the rooms are elegantly furnished with antiques, and the suites feature high ceilings and decently sized bathrooms with whirlpool tubs. Breakfast is included with the room, and I have to recommend the crawfish quiche, which is simply divine. The location is nice and quiet, but the downside of that is that it's a schlep to the interesting locations in the French Quarter. You have to walk through the residential part of the quarter to get to most of the restaurants and tourist locations, which is okay in the cooler months but can be murder during the summer when the heat and humidity beat you down after a couple of blocks. I'm talking the kind of humidity that literally fogs up your glasses the moment you step out the door. Depending on the room you get, MM can be a bit of a splurge, but if you've ever ridden the St. Charles line and looked longingly at the sorts of houses you see in the Garden District, this might be the place for you to scratch that itch.

I wish I can give this place negative stars!!!! The new manager is HORRIFIC, defensive, and unwilling to accommodate and work with my concerns. His only excuse was "he needs to hire more people, and until then there's nothing he can do in regards to customer service". I called to talk to a manager about the lack of very basic communication from his reservations agent, and right off the bat he was rude and condescending. I told him we have previously stayed there before and wanted to hold a family luncheon/shower for 20-30 people and when I originally contacted the hotel in February, the agent said that wouldn't be a problem and would get back to me at the end of the week. I finally hear back and it's now the last week of April. The last time we stayed at the hotel it was sub-par at best, the room was damp and smelled moldy when we arrived, the water that came from the sink smelled like a sewage treatment plant, and the shower head wasn't functioning properly. The only reason we thought of having our luncheon here is cause there was a pool, and the hotel was nicely restored. Other than that, I will spend our good money somewhere else that understands the meaning of being in the hospitality industry. Because they have a ways to go. I have informed my family, friends, coworkers and now you of my experiences. And that's just about all I can do. I'm not a stranger to the hotel industry, my father was VP of operations/North American for Marriott Intl. so I have a small slice of understanding on how to be treated by a hotel, and this was an example of how not to be, so I'm hoping that you can use my feedback to ensure that other guests leave your hotel with fond memories, instead of disappointing ones.

I've been to New Orleans about 30 times, and the Melrose Mansion represents my absolute worst accommodation experience in the city. The property has plumbing issues. On our first morning, our toilet wouldn't flush, which will render your Valentine's Day weekend somewhat less romantic. Next, the water supply changed from hot to cold during my shower. When I informed the front desk personnel, I was told "this has never happened before" (doubtful, but denial is not the most effective customer service strategy), and that I "may have the opportunity to switch rooms later." Later in the afternoon, when I called to check on the situation, the front desk staff informed me that "engineering has confirmed that there is hot water in your room," so I guess I was hallucinating the whole thing, except that for all three mornings of our stay, we never had enough hot water to complete two showers and a shave. (To be fair, the toilet issue was taken care of that morning.) Because of the hot-water situation, I asked two different front desk staffers about the possibility of checking out early. I was told that if I did so, I would forfeit the charge for the full three nights of my original booking. Clearly, I found that unacceptable; I asked to speak to management, and was told I would receive a call from the GM. That call never came. The staff never made good on the offer to change rooms, and no consideration on my room rate was offered for the water issue. So Melrose management apparently believes that you must fulfill your contract to pay for the full length of your original reservation, even if they don't fulfill their implied contract to provide you with hot water. This alone should make you think twice about staying here. Even without the above lousy experience, I couldn't give Melrose more than three stars. It's tough to say who the property is designed for. It can't be business travelers, because there's no workspace. It can't be anyone staying for long, because there was very limited storage space for clothing in our room (5 hangers and two small side tables/dressers). The bathroom was particularly disappointing - French doors that don't fully close, very little space for personal effects, a poorly lit mirror (the only one in the room, BTW - no full-length), and a shower head that should be adjustable but wasn't - never a spray, only a narrow stream. As to toiletries? Waiting for us were one small bottle of shampoo, one small bottle of lotion, and a single bar of soap, which I guess we were meant to use for both the sink and the shower. I've traveled 50+ nights a year for 20 years, and Melrose Mansion is among the very worst values I've experienced. I paid $419 per night for my Valentine's Day weekend room at the Melrose. Out of morbid curiosity, I checked rates at the Monteleone, my preferred New Orleans hotel, for that Sunday night (Feb. 16); the same amount of money would have gotten me an executive suite, or TWO king rooms, with money to spare. At this price point, you have a right to expect better, and there are plenty of more professionally managed properties in town. Apart from its proximity to the Frenchmen Street clubs, there's no reason at all to endorse Melrose Mansion.
